Parents and teachers ask me about different diagnoses a lot. They want to know what the right label is for their child, what it means for them, and if the diagnosis can or will change. There are many ways to look at a child's behavior and the labels adults put on it.
It’s heartbreaking to see small beings and the adults around them use a diagnosis as an excuse for problem behavior and an occasion to lower the bar on their expectations.
Look, there are many adults who had labels thrown on them as children who later excelled beyond their so-called limitations to change the world in significant ways.
