Could your life use a little more sparkle?

It’s the little things…

In August, I went to visit a friend for a long weekend. Do you have friends who live out of town? If so, you know how special it can feel to have a few days together in person.

Of all the adventures we had over the weekend, one stands out. It was small and rather simple. It was also amazing and spectacular.

One night after dinner, we went back to her home and worked on a puzzle. You may know that I LOVE puzzling. So, this was a great plan for me.

She asked if I wanted anything to drink, and I said Sure. Not really thinking about what she would make. She went into the kitchen and came back with the most magical-looking beverage I had ever seen!

It was dark pink, but that was not the remarkable part. It sparkled. Like, actually glittered in the light. The color swirled and danced in the glass. I was in awe. I was not sure if it was ok to drink… it looked more like a lava lamp that you admire.

So I asked, “Is that my drink?!?”

“You bet!” was her answer.

A salt shaker full of glitter

I took a sip and laughed. I had never had a drink full of glitter.

She brought over a salt shaker and showed me that the inside was filled with edible glitter. It gets added to many things in her kitchen. I looked over and realized there were five other salt shakers with different colors of glitter in them. All were edible.

I paused, took another sip, and went to get my phone. I handed it to her and said, Please show me where I can get edible glitter. Ordering it that night meant it might be at my home when I got back. That idea delighted me.

Yes, we ordered edible glitter that night.

Yes, I have multiple colors of edible glitter.

Yes, I carry some with me in my purse all the time now.

Yes, I have been out to dinner and learned it was a special occasion, and I made our drinks sparkle to celebrate.

Yes, I sometimes just put it in my water.

Yes, it makes bad days a little bit better.

Yes, you should get some edible glitter also!

Golden Nuggets of the Week:

1. Small moments of joy are important! Simple and true

2. Sharing is caring! My friend has this amazing thing, and she shared it with me. I am now sharing it with you. Sharing goodness, happiness, joy, and magic is important. We are so quick to share the hard stories and experiences. Let’s be just as free with the joy in our lives.

3. The world is both/and (not either/or). This moment of joy does not right all the wrongs in the world. It does not stop hate or pain or crisis. It does create a bubble of goodness. It creates a moment of pure happiness that fills a bucket. It is what helps us keep going through the hard things.

4. Webinar – This week, I did a webinar on how to talk about school shootings with your kids. Yes, I had edible glitter after! If you missed it and wanted to check it out, here is the link.

One step at a time

In the world today, it is so easy to hear heartbreaking news. Sadly, it is everywhere. We have to work a little harder to see the good news. It is there! I see it every day because I look for it or I create it.

In the past few weeks, on some of my hardest days, I have taken a cup of water and made it sparkle. It brought a much-needed moment of joy.

We mustn’t ignore the hardship happening in the world. It is just as important that we don’t ignore the beauty, wonder, and sparkle in the world. Both happen every day!

So get some edible glitter and make yourself a cup of sparkling water. Or find a jigsaw puzzle to do. Or compliment a stranger. Or eat some ice cream. Or go hug a tree. Or tell your loved ones that you love them. Or tell someone they are doing a good job. Or smile to yourself. Or have a dance party.

There are countless ways to build joy in your life intentionally…edible glitter is just one option!
